The Brownston Gallery is delighted to once again show works by the late Dartmoor painter, Jean Jones.
Married to John Jones, an Oxford Don, Jean loved to escape the pressures of academic life by spending as much time as possible at Yellands, their hideaway cottage on the edge of Dartmoor. Yellands became Jean's place of refuge and from there she painted much-loved and familiar scenes including the nearby Ringmoor Standing Stones, the China Clay Pit, the River Plym as well as neighbouring fields and farms. Solace of Place is packed with Jean’s bright and vivid...
The Brownston Gallery is delighted to be showing this lovely new collection which introduces us to a different aspect of Jo's painting. The shapes, colours and lines representing her very individual style of landscape painting, capturing the mood and character of the local Devon countryside, whilst her still life paintings exude a feeling of joy at simple objects captured Between the Lines .
"My inspiration comes from the shapes and rhythm of the ntural world. I love the seasons and from my palette, I mix and create the colours, using the...
The Brownston Gallery are proud to present an exhibition of work by Joanna Haskins, winner of the Brownston Gallery Fresh Talent Award in 2022.
Jo Haskins has always been inspired by the natural environment and in partcular landscapes. After spending time in Svarlbard in the high Arctic she has created a wonderful collection of paintings and screen prints which are on show at the gallery until the end of the month.

The Brownston Gallery's annual Winter Show is always one of the highlights of the year and features a wonderful selection of paintings, prints and sculpture - something for everyone!
The Winter Show gives the gallery the perfect opportunity to showcase work by the many talented artists they represent. Works range from the fun and whimsical - Simeon Stafford , Fernando Asian , John Grice - to much loved landscapes - Andrew Miller , Tony Parsons , Michael Hill ; from the moody and ethereal - Julie Ellis , Barry Kelly , Mike Moss to serious investment pieces - Anthony Amos...
My work is all about the light. I love experimenting with dark and shade and seeing where each painting takes me. I feel this new collection has a light - almost summery - feel to it which I have really enjoyed creating.
Julie Ellis is an artistic powerhouse. Her work ethic and discipline must make her one of the hardest working artists in the country. Not only has she completed her Masters Degree at the University of Plymouth but she has also continued to create and produce a fantastic body of work to present to the public.
Our first Exhibition of the year brings together three very different artists from the south west, John Grice , Joe Webster and Ellie Verrecchia , who each have a true love of the natural world which they celebrate in their paintings. Their landscapes and seascapes of the local coastline and countryside are exceptional. John has produced some fantastic new work. Joe likes to mix things up with a bit of street art giving an edge to his paintings, and Ellie's gentle works on paper are breathtakingly beautiful.
