Fire on board nuclear submarine in Devonport dockyard

A fire on board the nuclear submarine, HMS Torbay, led to an evacuation of workers today (Thursday 25 April) in Devonport dockyard.

The fire is reported to have started when safety blankets caught alight as welding maintenance work was being undertaken on board the submarine.

The Royal Navy has confirmed that the fire was small and was quickly extinguished.
